Gretsch 6120 Chet Atkins ‘59 LTV

Gretsch 6120 Chet Atkins ‘59 LTV
Gretsch 6120 Chet Atkins '59 LTV

Price: 202.5
Up for auction is a 6120 ‘59 LTV built in 2007. I bought this from a guitar shop in Denver that took it on trade from someone who fancied himself as Brian Setzer. Apparently he didn’t realize Gretsch makes a variety of Brian Setzer models including the SSLVO so he sent this guitar to the TV Jones people who put in a new wiring harness that models Setzers with the treble bleed circuit and they also, to his request, swapped out the gold TV Jones pickups for chrome ones. He bought dice knobs and an adjustable bridge (never had it pinned… whoops… he missed that little detail there but it’s just as well) and then, and this one is a true wonder, had a “luthier” and I use that term loosely, remove the original tuners and replace them with some very spiffy gold Sperzels with Pearl keys. Okay… so it was up for sale and I wanted an LTV and this one was on the cheap by contrast to a new one so I bought it and put a rocking bar bridge back on it and put the original knobs back on it because I think dice knobs are Brian Setzers thing and I have no desire to be Brian Setzer since that job is already taken by some guy named Brian Setzer, and I bought a full set of brand new original gold Gretsch stay tite tuners which I never had installed because after the fact I discovered by talking with my “luthier” who in fact qualifies as one, that in order to put the Sperzels in they had had to drill out those holes slightly and to put the original ones back I would need to jacket them. No problem in doing that, the original grommets would cover the jackets but it was yet another thing to have to do.On the up side it can be done easily and cheaply enough and there no extra screw holes were created so if it is ever done by this guitars next owner, included are this lovely brand new set of tuners that are what this guitar was originally sold with. The “luthier” that installed the Sperzels however over tightened one to the point of stressing the clear coat around it’s headstock grommet. My guy told me that if I had him do the jacket and replacement he could heat and seal the clear coat around the grommet so it would be good as new. Whatever. Frankly the Sperzels are really very nice and I only bought this guitar to use out on festival concert stages so I lost interest in putting the guitar back to original. One thing I did do though was re-install the original 6120 wiring harness because I for one bought the guitar because I USE THE VARIETY OF TONES a Gretsch delivers…. so I put the original wiring harness back in with two provisions. One, I kept the TV Jones treble bleed circuit which basically keeps a good sparkling … Click for more info

Nice Japan built Gretsch 6120-60.  This is the model they built to replicate the features of the original 1960 6120.  This model is discontinued, and has been replaced by the 1959 model.I went over the guitar thoroughly before listing it (more than I did when I bought it!) to ensure and accurate description.  I would call it a 9 out of 10.  I bought the guitar on eBay from a local seller a couple of years ago.  I am only selling it because I bought a different model 6120, and I don’t need two. There are only two real concerns that prevent it from being  10 of 10.  First, there are some very fine “worm track” style irregular marks on the back, maybe from a belt buckle?  Not from me, since I always cover a buckle or don’t wear one when I play.  They are lower on the back that typical belt buckle scratches, almost like they got there while playing sitting down?  I never noticed them until I looked it over carefully for this auction description.  They will not show up in pictures, and are almost unnoticeable.  It is a sunny day today, and I inspected it next to the window in my sunroom.  They are just those very, very fine scratch/dent style marks you see occasionally. The second issue is an original hole from the prior aluminum Bigsby.  I replaced the original aluminum Bigsby with the gold “Duane Eddy” style.  I just couldn’t handle the differences in metal finishes!  Unfortunately, the original Bigsby was slightly off center, pulling the bridge to the treble side.  So one of the original Bigsby screw holes in the tail block is exposed.  I always planned to plug and color this, but I’ve just never ordered the right color mix from Stew-Mac to match the Gretsch orange.  Original aluminum finish Bigsby is NOT included in the auction, I have since installed that on a different guitar.By the way, the spot on the cutaway horn in the one pic is just a sun reflection, not a scratch.Very slight fret wear.  Playing marks/slight dents (see pic).  Plays great.  Excallent action and feel.  Stays in tune with Bigsby real well.  Last gig I did, I was the “stunt guitarist”, providing little fills and Bigsby wiggles in a quiet acoustic set.  I checked it before and after the set, and it was still perfectly in tune.  Roller Space Control bridge helps this, I think. Some gold wear on the bass side of Space Control bridge.  I rest my hand on the bridge.  If this really bugs you, these bridges are readily available.  If you play that way too, it will just happen again pretty quickly. The back of the neck is a more satiny finish that the high gloss on the rest of the guitar.  I am not sure if this is … Click for more info

Price: 750.0
Limited edition Gretsch G6120W-1955 produced by Gretsch for Fuller’s Vintage Guitar.  The guitar has hardly been used as evidenced by the wrap still on the Bigsby and the plastic still on the pickguard.  Fretboard is ebony and the guitar’s top is solid. Dynasonic pickups.Guitar works and sounds as you would expect.  Guitar is in the same ‘as new’ shape as received from Fuller’s Vintage Guitar. This is the text from http://www.musicgadgets.net/tag/custom/page/2/ describing the issue of the guitar: ”Yesterday we introduced you the Gretsch G6136-55 White Falcon Custom Limited Edition of the new custom limited edition models from Gretsch, the other two models are so similar that I’ll introduce them together. The Gretsch G6120W-55 Nashville Western Custom Limited Edition and the G6120-55 Nashville Custom Limited Edition are identical models, the only difference is some marks and signs like “G” Brand on the body, the inlays and the Nashville sign post on the pickguard. The features for both models are laminated flamed maple body with carved solid maple top, laminated rock maple neck, ebony fingerboard, 22 frets, 24.6? scale length, Bigsby bridge with B6CB vibrato tailpiece, 2 Alnico Vintage DynaSonic pickups, 3-way pickup switch, volume 1 and 2 (neck and bridge pickups), master volume and master tone controls. This guitars are only available in very cool orange nitrocellulose lacquer finish, come with a hardshell case and will be sold exclusively in Fuller’s Vintage Guitar store in Houston…”And electric-guitar-review:http://www.electric-guitar-review.com/2007/05/29/fullers-vintage-guitar-gets-deluxified-gretsch-models/  :”According to Gretsch’s website, Fuller’s Vintage Guitar (in Houston Texas,) is now the proud home, not to mention sole distributor, of these three retro-classic beauties––Custom Limited Edition versions of the G6120W-55 Nashville Western, G6136-55 White Falcon, and the G6120-55 Nashville. The three new models are apparently decked out in full-on “Deluxified” fashion (is “Deluxification” a word? ‘cuz if it isn’t it really should be,) including carved solid tops, old-school Nitrocellulose Lacquer finishes, binding across the board, and Deluxe hard-shell cases….”.Note that the serial number according to the Gretsch pages indicates the guitar was made in 1997 - the first numbers are ‘97′ in the guitars serial number.  Final production was apparently in 2007; I have read that the final finish work was at the Fender Custom Shop (I can’t vouch for that).  … Click for more info

Used Firebird Red G6120DSW G6120 DSW Electric Guitar w/ Factory Case, TV Jones

Price: 1775.0
This is a used Gretsch G6120DSW.  As you may notice a few things are different.  This is my personal guitar and was part of a run another store made of these guitars.  I was told there was a total of 12 made in a batch.  They where done in Firebird Red and with TV Jones Classics.  The thing is, “DSW” should mean dynasonics but again this one came factory with TV Jones Classics.  The store, factory or whatever probably made a mistake when ordering and asked for a “DSW with Filters” when they should’ve just ordered a FTW model G6120 in red.  This one has the knob layout that would normally accompany a single coil/dyna model (..single switch/variable tone as opposed to the 2 switches/no variable tone that should’ve been on this model).  That said, this a very rare and unique variation on the 6120.  I have added a tunomatic bridge.  The mismatched aluminum bigsby is factory.  I have also added locking Sperzel tuners.  There are a few exposed holes on the rear of the head from the original factory tuner’s mounting screws but they do not affect the looks, operation, structural integrity or whatever of this guitar.  Plays and sounds great.  I have swapped the the factory Classics for TV Jones Powertrons but I can ship the guitar with the buyers choice of the Powertrons that are already installed or a set of Classics. Please ask all questions before bidding.  Free shipping is for the 48 Continental United States only.  Payment must be received in 5 working days or item will be re-listed.  Good luck! … Click for more info
